Marguerite Austin


EARLVILLE – Marguerite G. Austin, 95, formerly of South Hamilton Rd., and Westfield, N.J., passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.
She was born February 25, 1915 in Oneonta, a daughter of Floyde and Nettie Wheeler Moore. She received her early education in Oneonta schools and was a graduate of Westfield (N.J.) High School. On May 30, 1936, Marguerite was united in marriage to Lawrence G. Austin in Davenport. They made their home in Westfield, N.J. and enjoyed spending summers on the family farm in Davenport. Lawrence predeceased her in 1983. Marguerite was a homemaker whose life was devoted to her family.
Mrs. Austin was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church in Westfield in 1966. She was an active member who served on the Board of Deacons for many years and was in charge of communion, as well as teaching the toddler Sunday School class. She was also very involved in the Women’s Circles, a member of the American Baptist Women, White Cross Auxiliary, Baptist Home Society of N.J. and served on the Library committee. An expert seamstress and skilled in crochet, she made many items for sale at the annual fund raising bazaar for the Baptist Home.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Frank Mazzeo, Sr. of Earlville; and a son, Lawrence Austin of Dalton, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Barbara Manzi, predeceased her in 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by interment in the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
