Allan Christophersen


NORWICH – Allan M. Christophersen, 68, of Peacock Park Manor, Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at his home.
The oldest of the children of Arthur E. and Lillian (Magnusen) Christophersen, Allan was bom in Oneonta on Sept. 30, 1938. Growing up in Unadilla, he attended the local schools. From September of 1956 through his honorable discharge in September of 1962, Allan served his country in the U.S. Navy. Allan was a very talented and knowledgeable carpenter who worked for himself and for various local contractors over the years. From May 1, 1970, through Sept. 15, 1976, he was employed by the City of Norwich Police Department as a patrolman, and he worked for Great American from December 1988 through May of 1993 in several positions, including maintenance mechanic, construction job foreman, and maintenance dispatcher. Allan’s last employment was as a bus driver for the City of Norwich School District from 1995 through 2000. A man who liked a good joke, Allan was also a good storyteller.
Allan is survived by his children: Mark Christophersen and wife Dawn of Norwich, Donna Walker of Minnesota, and Debra Christophersen of Alaska; and by his grandson, Nathan Christophersen of Norwich, as well as three other grandchildren. He is survived by brothers and their spouses: Barry and Kathy Christophersen of Norwich, Dennis and Diane Christophersen of Nebraska, Warren and Cindy Christophersen of Nebraska, Tim Christophersen of Norwich, Roy Christophersen and companion Robin of Mt. Upton, and Peter Christophersen of Preston; by sisters and their spouses: Judy Henchey of Michigan, Karen Thompson and companion Louie Ives, Norwich, Sue and Red Boise of Norwich, Brenda and Kenneth Enfield of Albany, Patty and Bill Castaldy of Oxford, Lisa and Glenn Abbey, Desi and Shane Gladin of Georgia, and Pamela and Bob Kell of New Mexico; by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and by close friend Betty Jo Travis and her family. Allan was predeceased by his daughter, Denise Christophersen.
Funeral services for Allan will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Hills Cemetery of Unadilla. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
