Marion Reed


HOLMESVILLE – Marion L. Reed, 86, a longtime resident of Holmesville, passed away early Friday morning, Aug. 6, 2010 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Marion was born in Walton in March of 1924, the daughter of Alfred and Gladys (Goodrich) Neff. She grew up in Walton and was a graduate of the Walton High School. As a young girl, Marion was very active in dairy cattle shows and was a member of the National Holstein Friesian Association, of which she was named National Dairy Girl at the age of 18. She was also active in the 4-H program and had won many showmanship awards. On Jan 18, 1953 she married Herbert Reed, who passed away on Sept. 18, 1976. In the late 1950s she and her husband settled in Holmesville where they opened and operated the Holmesville General Store which also housed the Post Office. They continued to operate the store until it was sold in 1974.
A very caring and family oriented person, Marion devoted herself to her family, especially her grandchildren, following the death of her husband. She enjoyed traveling, being on the go and eating out.
Marion is survived by her children Eileen Lawyer and her husband Daniel of Holmesville and James Reed of NY, her grandchildren Timothy Taylor and wife Tina of South New Berlin, Jennifer Reed of Norwich, Dawn Lawyer and husband Scott Osborne of Mt. Upton, Kristyn Reed of Clinton and her great grandchildren Austin and Alex Taylor and Olivia Joslyn. Also surviving is her special friend, caregiver and companion Loretta Rose-Craw and her husband Billy as well as caregivers Tracey Brady and Shelly Muserallo. She was also a special grandma to Zachary and Jenna Craw.
Besides her husband Herbert, Marion was predeceased by her granddaughter Michele Reed and her brother Leland Neff.
Graveside services for Marion will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday from the Riverside Cemetery in South New Berlin. Pastor Kurt Funke of the Gilbertsville Baptist Church will officiate.
