Doris Blackman


SMYRNA – Doris Blackman, 63, of Flat Iron Rd., passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 at her home.
She was born in Norwich on May 26, 1943, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Slater Stevens. A life long Smyrna area resident, she received her education in local schools. Doris was united in marriage to Leonard Blackman. Besides being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Doris had worked for the Dairy Bar in Norwich, Cheseborough Ponds in Sherburne, and was a home health aide. She was a member of the Smyrna Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Chenango County Firemen’s Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Leonard; her children, Scott and Mari Blackman of Brookfield; Mark Blackman, Sherry and James Brooks, Penny and Wayne Eggleston, all of Smyrna; Brian and Kim Blackman of South New Berlin; stepson, William Brazee of Oxford; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Terry Fuller of Sherburne; brother and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Rita Stevens of New Berlin; aunt, Erma Simpson of South Plymouth and several other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tonya Aikens, Mellisa Brazee, Jason Jipson, U.S.M.C. of Camp Lejeune, NC, William MacGuire, Chyanne Blackman, Ashlie Shaver,Tabitha Blackman, Briana Brooks, Jordan Brooks, Kaylee Brooks and Kati-jo Blackman; her great-grandchildren, Jade, Tyler and Miakoda; along with the many others who adopted her as their grandma.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 South Main St., Sherburne, with interment in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The Smyrna Fire Department will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
