Alan P. Nower


EARLVILLE – Alan P. Nower, 52, of River Road, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010.
He was born Aug. 27, 1957 in Hamilton, a son of Paul and Pauline Howlett Nower. Alan was a graduate of Sherburne-Earlville Central School in 1975, where he was a member of the F.F.A., and as President of the Parliamentary Procedure Team, lead them to a second place finish in the state competition. He continued his education at SUNY Cobleskill and received a BA in Agri-Business. For many years, he worked on the family farm, Nowerland Registered Holsteins in Earlville, until he became ill. He was a member of the NYS and National Holstein Associations. He was the National Distinguished Holstein Member in 1978. He had also been a member of the 4-H and the Boy Scouts where he achieved an Eagle Scout rank. Alan enjoyed genealogy in his later years, and every year for the past few years, raised several thousand dollars for the Mohawk Valley “Aids Hike for Life.” He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Earlville.
Surviving are his daughter, Hana Nower of Bouckville; his mother, Pauline Nower of Earlville; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Denise Nower of Hamilton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Stephen Holmes of Groton; Cindy and Richard Lewis of Sherburne; his former wife, Julie Nower of Bouckville; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Grace Lillie Nower in 1983, and his father, Paul Nower in 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 16, from the Bouckville United Methodist Church, Route 20, Bouckville, followed by interment in the Pine Woods Cemetery, Bouckville;
Friends are invited to call at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Mohawk Valley Aids Hike for Life, c/o Aids Community Resources, 401 Columbia St., Utica, NY 13502.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St. Earlville.
