Joseph Gatlin Iii

GUILFORD – Joseph B. Gatlin III, “JB” 47, of Guilford, went home to his Lord early Saturday morning, July 10, 2010 at his home.
Born in New Brunswick, N.J. on Nov. 20, 1962, JB was the son of Andrew and Joan (McCallen) Gatlin. He spent part of his childhood in Piscataway, N.J. before moving to Guilford where he attended and graduated from the Bainbridge-Guilford High School in 1983. He had worked for a period of 18 years for the Baillie Lumber Co. of Smyrna as a saw man and also worked part time at the Mt. Upton Flagstone.
A sports enthusiast, he was an avid fan of the New York Giants as well as the New York Mets and you could find him enjoying a game on Sunday afternoons. JB also loved to hunt and fish and was very proud of shooting his trophy buck this past hunting season. A simple man with a perfect plan, he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
On June 12, 1999 in Guilford Center, he married Brenda Miner Gatlin, who survives.
Besides his wife Brenda, JB is survived by his parents Joan Gatlin of Guilford, his father Andrew Gatlin of Franklin, N.J., his step-children Christine Furgison and fiancee Shawn Wright, Christopher (Vanessa) Furgison all of Norwich, his grandchildren Devon Ireland, Shauna Astalos, Shiane Astalos, Wyatt Wright and Sophia Furgison. Also surviving is his twin brother Jeffrey Gatlin of Guilford, and brother Guy Gatlin and his wife Gina of Oshkosh, WI, his sisters Terri Montuori and husband Lenny, Toni Astalos and husband Butch, Jody Purdy and husband Junior. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
