Catherine Feitzinger-hitt

NORWICH – Catherine Ann Feitzinger-Hitt “Cate,” 53, of Norwich, passed away Thursday evening, July 8, 2010 at her home.
Cate was born in September of 1956 in East Meadow, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Radziewicz) Fischedick. She grew up in Long Island and was a 1974 graduate of the Lindenhurst High School. On April 26, 1975 she married Ronald Feitzinger, who passed away Oct. 29, 2004. Throughout her years with Ron she would follow him on his Naval assignments and had made their home in San Diego for several years. Returning to Lindenhurst, Cate made her home there until moving to Norwich in 2005.
Cate was an “Angel” in every sense of the word. She was a very compassionate, caring and forgiving individual who possessed a deep soul and found the good in any situation no matter how bad things were. A guardian angel who always wanted to do for others, Cate would often, anonymously, go shopping for those less fortunate and see that they had what was needed. Her sharp wit and thoughtfulness for others will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Cate enjoyed her circle of friends at the YMCA which were her anchor when she moved to Norwich and she was also a member of the Norwich Garden Club. The outside of her North Broad Street home was always meticulously maintained with her flowers which she could often be found watering or weeding.
Cate is survived by her sons; Clifford (Lynn) Feitzinger and their children Autumn and Ronald Harrison of Seaford, Christopher (Casondra) Feitzinger and their children Madelisa and Christopher II of Ithaca, her companion and partner for several years Jim Hitt and his children Emily, Carolyn, and Benjamin Ford and their families. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers; Liz (Dan) Francati of Ormond Beach, Fla., Margaret (Wayn) Resta of Folsom, Calif., Frank (Mary) Fischedick of Long Branch, N.J. and Bill (Rita) Fischedick of Holbrook. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Cate will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Paul’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. On Monday evening at 6 p.m., family and friends are invited to recite the Rosary in Cate’s memory at St. Paul’s Church.
Please consider memorial contributions to the Norwich Garden Club, c/o Pat Whitmore, 51 Pleasant St., Norwich, NY 13815.
