Richard A. Swift, 85, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Valley View Nursing Home.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen K Swift of 49 years. He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer (Maury) Wightman of Norwich, granddaughter Allison Wightman, and son Brian (Ruth) Swift of Maine. Also surviving are his sisters Beverly Lilliquist of Pennsylvania, and Sylvia (Dale) West of Greene as well as his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Arlene Howard (Norwich), Linda Kane (North Norwich), Charles (Sylvia) Kane (Arizona), and Ty (Carloyn) Kane (Washington). There are many nieces and nephews who survive him. He also leaves behind his faithful furry companion Chloe.
Richard was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963 where he was an accountant. After retiring from the Army, he worked at GLA/Unison for 47 years where he worked in various roles from auditing to Quality Control Engineer. He was an avid reader, daily cross word puzzle solver, Buffalo Bills and New York Mets fan. He passed his love of bowling and softball onto his daughter and his love of softball onto his granddaughter. He enjoyed coaching softball and loved watching his daughter and granddaughter play.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, August 6, from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. with funeral services immediately following at 1 p.m. Calling hours and funeral services will be held at RJ Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich, NY. Intermittent will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Norwich immediately after the services.
