Marion Bassett


McDONOUGH – Marion E. Bassett, 86, of McDonough, passed away at her home on Friday evening, July 2, 2010.
Born to Leon and Agnes Coy Martin in February of 1924, in Columbus, Marion married Fred W. Bassett and they raised their family in the Oxford area. She retired from the New York State Veterans’ Home where she was happily employed for a number of years. She moved to Plymouth Reservoir after retirement, and relocated to McDonough to be near her daughter after her husband passed away. Marion enjoyed, doing puzzles, playing games, especially cards; crocheting, riding snowmobiles, and bowling back in the day. She was always a social butterfly, spending every spare moment with family and friends. She loved people almost as much as they loved her, and cherished the time she spent with Pastor Holtz and the entire congregation of Faith Bible Church in Oxford. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post #1478 of McDonough.
Marion is survived by her children and their spouses: Gary and Carolyn Bassett of Pavilion and Sherry and Donald Granger of McDonough; her grandchildren: Kevin Bassett of Niagara Falls, “favorite” granddaughter Jenny Graef of McDonough, and Bill Granger of Oxford; and “favorite” great granddaughter Sarah Marie Bassett of Warsaw, N.Y. She is also survived by her sisters and their husbands: Mae and Roy Powers of Fabius, Alice Ostrom of Norwich, Leona and Richard Suffern of Springfield, Vt., and Linda and Shannon Becham of Newman, Ga.; and her good buddies, Bev and CeeCee. She has many nieces and nephews and is Grandma Bassett to many, many children and adults. Predeceasing Marion were her parents, husband Fred W. Bassett, grandson Daniel Boone Graef, and brother, Lytle Martin.
Funeral services for Marion will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the Faith Bible Church of Oxford. Pastor Norman Holtz will preside. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery of Oxford. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. On Thursday at 5 p.m., members of the Ladies Auxiliary Post #1478 will conduct a prayer service at the funeral home.
