Philip O. Nelson, 81, of Smyrna, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
He was born on December 29, 1944, in Norwich, a son of the late Gerald and Lois (Eastman) Nelson. A lifelong area resident, he began his education in Smyrna before graduating from the Sherburne-Earlville Central School.
Philip was married to Norena Austin until her passing in 2021. He later married Sharon (Graham) Chrisbacher in Smyrna on November 4, 2024.
Philip worked for many years at Chenango Valley Pet Foods, where he was employed as an industrial mechanic until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his sons and daughters-in-law, Gerrit and Valerie Nelson of Smyrna, Micah and Pam Nelson of Sherburne; his grandchildren, Darran and Mckenzie Nelson, Jacob and Cheyenne Nelson and Drew Nelson; great-grandchildren, Owen and Lila; his sisters, Doris Ann (Louis) Wilbur, Geraldine Cousens and Nola Sutherland, all of Sherburne, Karen Powers (Jerry Fuller) of Vale, AZ., and Grace Macumber of Guilford; his brother, Michael (Mira) Nelson of Smyrna; sister-in-law, Gail Nelson of Smyrna; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by a son, Alan Nelson; sister, Rachel Bates; and brothers, Alan, Gene and David Nelson.
A celebration of his life and interment in Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna, will be private at the convenience of the family.
