Walter George Glendening passed away peacefully May 17, 2026 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Walt was born August 14, 1939 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica. He was the son of William and Gertrude (Dietrich) Glendening.
Walt married Patricia (Palmatier) Glendening on Feb 2, 1963. Patricia survives him. He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, and a son and daughter-in-law: Rene’ and Kevin Treffeisen, Walton; Rebecca and Craig Berry, Norwich and William and Debbie (Wilson) Glendening, Athens, WV. Walt is also survived by six grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, (Chelsea), Alexa Treffeisen, Samantha Johnson (Doug), Josh Treffeisen (Julia), Jacob Treffeisen (Gracie), and Evan Thorpe, (Cassandra). He is also survived by his brother William Glendening of Homer, brother-in-law, Richard and Sherry Palmatier of Bainbridge and by two special godsons Michael and Brendon Palmatier; several cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Walt received his education in Clinton, NY, class of ‘58. He was a certified high-pressure welder at the Jennison plant, retiring in 1999.
Walt served in the United States Navy, was a past member of the Bainbridge Fire Dept. and Bainbridge Sportsman Club.
In his younger years, he enjoyed shooting pool, gardening, wood working and trap shooting. Walt loved his many trips to South Dakota pheasant hunting, and working the family farm. He also loved his trip to Scotland with Pat; it was a trip of a lifetime. He enjoyed his many NASCAR trips with his wife and brother and sister-in-law.
Walt’s pride and joys were his, wife, children, and grandchildren, his tractors, cars and his home.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Maryann Palmetier officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park in New Hartford. Share condolences online at www.landersfh.com.
