Phyllis I. Mead, 93, of McDonough, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, with her family at her side. She was born in Laurens, NY, to the late Albert Mead and Ruby Adams and graduated from Whitney Point High School.
Phyllis served others as a nurses’ aide at Duells Nursing Home in McDonough and later as a cook in the Oxford School Cafeteria. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Norwich and the McDonough Grange. She will be mostly remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
Phyllis leaves behind her children, Diane and Terry Oary, Vickie and Eugene Vigus, Dennis and Kathleen Mead, Penny and Ken Baxter, Patricia and David Murray, Carol Ann and James Master, and Timothy and Patricia Mead; 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her brothers, Bentley Mead, and Kevin and Susan Mead; her sisters, Lois and Melvin Howard, and Rose and Tom Mott; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Neil Mead; her son Ivan Mead; and her brothers, Wayne Mead, Paul Adams, and John Adams.
A funeral service for Phyllis will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Calvary Dr., Norwich, with Pastor Justin Bleuer officiating. Burial will follow at Bennett Weatherly Cemetery in West Laurens. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
