Hazel Mccredy


SHERBURNE – Hazel Irwin McCredy, 87, formerly of Chenango Ave., passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility, Norwich.
She was born March 7, 1923 in Sherburne, a daughter of Charles and Hilda Lodge Irwin and received her education in local schools. On May 24, 1947, Hazel married George M. McCredy in Earlville. He predeceased her on May 23, 1998. Hazel was a telephone operator in Hamilton for 10 years, and then devoted herself to making a loving home for her family. Hazel had many interests and hobbies. Among them were doll collecting, ceramics, knitting, scrapbooking and reading. Interior design and flower arranging were two of her passions. She showed exceptional talent in both areas, despite having no formal training. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Sherburne.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law; Wendy and Jay McDaniel of Sherburne, Cindy and Richard Runyon of Norwich; grandchildren, Sarah and Adam Bohnert; Haley, Hannah and Richard Runyon; great-grandchildren, Ava and Jack Bohnert; sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and John Giaquinto of Earlville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Candace Irwin of Earlville; Charles and Geri Irwin, of Daytona Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Eva Hinkley, and three brothers, Elmer, Roy and Gordon Irwin.
In keeping with Hazel‚s wishes, services will be private with interment in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
