Charles Barrowclough


NORWICH – Charles Walter Barrowclough, 90, of Cole Drive, Norwich, passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at the home of his daughter.
Born in Paterson, N.J., on June 15, 1916, Charles was the son of Walter and Agnes (Cooper) Barrowclough. He attended school in Patterson and lived most of his adult life in West Milford, N.J., working as a machinist for over 30 years for the National Beryllia Company of Haskell, N.J. An extremely proud and patriotic man who dearly loved his country, Charles was an avid fan and supporter of West Point. He, himself, had served his country twice, the last time being in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the 1st Infantry Division. He served in China and Normandy prior to his honorable discharge, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
During his early teens, Charles began spending time with family and friends near Roscoe, and developed a love of the outdoors, especially fly fishing and hiking. After his retirement at the age of 75, he moved to New York State, eventually settling in Norwich during the early 1990s. On July 17, 1981, he married Elizabeth Lally Barrowclough, who would predecease him on April 27, 2004.
Charles is survived by his children: Kathy Kalesa and husband Ben of Johnstown, Karen Donohue and husband John of Norwich, Robert Carroll of Hewitt, N.J., Kenneth Carroll and wife Elizabeth, also ofHewitt; Kevin Carroll and wife Karin of Ringwood, N.J., Sandee Barrowclough of Westwood, N.J., and Charles Barrowclough and wife Cindy of Florida; by 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and by his sister, Helen Krautheim and husband Len of Hawthorne, N.J. He was predeceased by his brother, George Barrowclough.
Funeral services for Charles were held at noon on Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Tan Creti, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Oxford, officiated. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery of Norwich followed the services. Friends paid their respects at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 11 a.m. until noon.
