Vera Dolan


NORWICH – Vera “Dottie” Dolan, 77, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Laurens in May of 1933, one of 12 children of Russell and Ruth Calkins Alger, Dottie attended school in Morris. Following her marriage to Graydon “Pat” Dolan on Aug. 14, 1954, Dottie became a dedicated wife and mother. She worked for numerous years for Norwich Shoe, then relocated to Unison and its successors, from which she retired in the late 1990s. At home, Dottie was known for her cooking skills, having done Sunday dinners for her large family for many years. She was absolutely devoted to her grandchildren.
Dottie is survived by her daughter. Deb Strauss and husband Joe, and son, Patrick Dolan and Helena, all of Norwich; by her grandchildren: Joseph Strauss and wife Jessica of Norwich, Krista Webb and husband Derek of Sherburne, and Logann and Aleia May Dolan, both of Norwich; and by her great grandchildren: Justine and Jeremy Strauss and Kaitlyn and Kendall Webb. Also surviving are her sister, Betty Lou Lang, and brother, Clayton Alger and wife Jan of Norwich; and many nieces and nephews. Dottie was predeceased by her husband, Pat, in December of 2000; and by her siblings: Harriet, William, Gerald, Marshall, Russell, Vernon, Ken, Charles “Buddy,” and Robert.
Honoring Dottie’s wishes to keep things simple, graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 25, from the East Pharsalia Cemetery. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, pastor of the Earlville Baptist Church, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
