Betty Phillips-Brewer


Betty Phillips-Brewer, 82, a lifelong Norwich resident died peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Born on April 29, 1943, in Norwich, Betty was the only daughter of Claude and Blanche (Rickard) Phillips. She graduated from Norwich High School in 1961, and then worked at Montgomery Wards, M. H. Fishman’s, and at Nationwide Insurance. After raising her children, she found employment at McLaughlin’s Department Store until her retirement.
Betty could often be seen around town strolling the streets or visiting at the Guernsey Memorial Library. She enjoyed watching movies, sewing, and looking for bargains. Betty was the ultimate mother hen to those she cared for. Most recently, she resided at Golden Age Apartments where she made many friends. Betty was also a member of the First Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Valerie Brewer, of Binghamton; son, Kenneth (Darcy) Brewer of Norwich; grandchildren, Jesse Brewer, Thomas Brewer, and Eli Brewer; step-grandchildren, Alex Gates (Amy Duengfelder) and Adrienne (Bob) Galasso; and brothers, Brad Phillips of Earlville, David Phillips of Norwich, Gary Phillips of Norwich, and Rick (Denise) Phillips of Oxford.
A memorial service for Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, 10 West Park Place, Norwich, NY. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Guernsey Memorial Library, 3 Court Street, Norwich, NY 13815. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
