Janice Jeanette Johnson, 57, of McDonough, passed away on May 13, 2025 with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Norwich to the late Stuart and Deanna Johnson and spent most of her life in the Town of Preston before moving to McDonough in 2022.
Janice will be remembered by her loved ones for her innocent and funny character. She was a fan of Whoppers from Burger King, diet Pepsi, fresh donuts, watching her game shows, card playing and her magazines. She was a sweet and gentle soul that will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Janice is survived by her sisters, Penni (Leonard) Mills, of Norwich, Nancy Harders, of Binghamton, and Jenni (Dean) Bliven, of Guilderland; her nieces, Haili (Joseph) Straight, of McDonough, and Elizabeth Bliven; the apple of her eye, her great-nephew Waylon Straight; Joel and Katy Straight; many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as her beloved dogs, Dixi, Blaire and Moose.
Along with her parents, Janice was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Philip Harders; and her grandparents, Harold and Alta Johnson and Elmer and Reva Wood.
A special thank you goes out to Haili and Joseph for welcoming Janice into their home and giving her the best life ever and to Kathy (AKA Mom) Mead for always being there for Janice during the last three years. Other wonderful people that took care of her after the passing of her parents include Dennis Mead, Austin Mead, Nell Cosilmon, Joanne Woodard, Debra Fuller-Shimer, Tiffany Luca, Deborah Wicks, Josh Frayer, Alisha Richer, and her physician, Trevor Tompkins. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all of you.
A funeral service for Janice will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at Bible Baptist Church, 23 Birdsall St., Norwich, with Pastor Matt Frayer officiating. Burial will follow at McDonough Village Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. A potluck gathering will be held at the McDonough Fire House on Saturday following the burial.
