Frederick P. “Fred” Treiling, 86, of Sherburne, NY, and formerly of Little Neck, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville, NY. Fred was born on March 27, 1939, in New York, NY, son of the late Frederick and Olive (Shea) Treiling. He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1957 and served in the New York Army National Guard.
Fred was a member of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) until his retirement at the rank of lieutenant. He was proud of this service and deeply valued the camaraderie he shared with his fellow firefighters. Many memories were retold about his time on the job both fighting fires and working (and joking) in the firehouse.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Stephen Dunshee of Sherburne, a son, Frederick Treiling of Oviedo, FL; grandchildren, Robert (Renee Merrill) Dunshee of Newtown, CT, Grace (Thomas) DeLap of Aberdeen, NC, Kevin (Megan Eigen) Dunshee of Troy; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Gabriel, Aidan, Mara and Everett; a sister, Carole Brittan of W. Islip; nephews William (Sally) Maher of N. Massapequa and Patrick (Christina) Maher of Centereach, a niece Kathleen (Michael) Kohler of W. Islip; and former wife Maureen Laramee of New Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Malachy’s Roman Catholic Church, 29 E. State St., Sherburne, NY 13460. Interment will follow in St. Malachy’s Parish Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
Fred’s family is grateful to the compassionate staff members at Crouse Community Center for the care and kindness they provided in the last months of his life.
