Ethlyn Bensley


SHERBURNE – Ethlyn I. “Peg” Bensley, 84, of Chenango Ave., passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at the New York State Veterans’ Home, Oxford.
She was born July 21, 1922 in Earlville, a daughter of George and Ethel Dutcher Gale. She was a graduate of Minoa High School and received her L.P.N. degree from Salt Springs Orphanage in Syracuse. On Aug. 5, 1944, Peg was married to Donald E. Bensley in the Kirkville Methodist Church. Moving to the Sherburne/Earlville area, Mrs. Bensley worked as an L.P.N. in the Pediatric Unit at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, and then worked at T.A.C.O. in Sherburne for several years. Following that, she was a receiving clerk at Agway in Sherburne for 10 years until her retirement in 1986. Mr. & Mrs. Bensley moved to Lake Havasu City, Ariz. for 12 years from 1991 until returning to Sherburne in 2003.
Peg was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Sherburne. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sherburne and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Earlville.
Surviving are her husband, Don; her a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Charles Jones of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. and Bradbury, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Diane Bensley of Earlville; Richard and Kathryn Bensley of Whitney Point; Douglas and Janet Bensley of Ludlow, Vermont; Daniel and Suzanne Bensley of Sherburne; a sister, Shirley Bennett of Sherburne; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Sue Kinney and a brother, George Gale, Jr., and a granddaughter, Katie Bensley.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Burial in the Poolville Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service.
