Caroline Pudney


SHERBURNE – Caroline B. Pudney, 95, of North Main St., passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility, Norwich.
She was born November 12, 1914 in Rochester, a daughter of Daniel and Odella Balding Barnard. She was a graduate of Geneseo High School and the Cortland Normal School. On Dec. 20, 1942, Caroline married John (Jack) G. Pudney in Sherburne. He predeceased her on Feb. 20, 1992. Mrs. Pudney was a Physical Education teacher at Sherburne Central School. She also worked with her husband in the operation of their Sherburne store Pudney’s Clothing, Inc. where she was the seamstress for over 45 years. Her accomplished sewing skills were also put to use in making the original color guard uniforms for the Sherburne schools, as well as the uniforms for other schools in the area.
Caroline was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Sherburne; and the Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne.
Surviving are her children, Polly Pudney Collins and Rolland Collins of Alexandria, Va.; Patricia Pudney; Frank and Mary Jane Pudney, Peter and Tina Pudney, all of Sherburne; a son-in-law, John Baldwin of Rochester; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sue Pudney Baldwin on Oct. 29, 2006, and a sister, Sally Gaugel.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
