Elinor O’brien


NORWICH – Elinor O’Brien, 93, passed away on Jan. 9, 2010, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla. after a short illness.
A Norwich resident for most of her life, Elinor was born in Norwich in July of 1916, the daughter of Ysidro and Esther Perez. She had attended the Norwich schools and was employed by the Carol Ann Shop and later the Chenango County Savings and Loan, from which she retired in 1984. Elinor married James J. “Bud” O’Brien on Oct. 22, 1942 and, upon Elinor’s retirement, they enjoyed their yearly vacations, camping in their trailer on Cape Cod and then in Cape May, N.J. In 2004, Elinor moved to Florida to be near her daughter.
Elinor is survived by her daughter, DeeAnn Demers of North Fort Myers, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Virginia Perez of Delmar; and nephews Bunky of Pocatello, Idaho, Tim and Paul of Saratoga Springs, and Bob of Voorheesville and their families. Elinor was predeceased by her husband, Bud, on Oct. 28, 1986; and by her sister and brother, Rosita and William.
Funeral services for Elinor will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Connolly, pastor of the United Church of Christ First Congregational, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions in Elinor’s name may be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway, Cape Coral, FL 33909, where she spent her last 24 hours.
