Charles Rowe Sr.


NORWICH – Charles D. (Charlie) Rowe, Sr., 90 of Syracuse died at his home on Friday evening, June 4, 2010.
Born in Norwich, son of Fred and Ella (Ferry) Rowe, he graduated from Norwich High School.
He proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a B24 gunner, completing 35 missions in the European Theater. Charlie was employed as a salesman for the Norwich Pharmical Company/Procter & Gamble, retiring in 1983. He was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Syracuse and St. Paul’s in Norwich. He enjoyed summers at his cottage on Chenango Lake, Norwich and winters in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Charlie was a skilled handyman, an avid grocery shopper and a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth S. Rowe; his son C. Daniel (Elizabeth) Rowe Jr., two daughters: Betsy (Jack) Rowe-Manning, Kathleen (Dennis) Rood; nine grandchildren: Michael (Leisa) Rowe, Meghan (James) Phillips, James, Michael, Amy, Carrie, Allison, Daniel Rood, Kathryn Rood (Daniel) Kinnetz; two great grandsons: Charles and Grant Rowe and several nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, siblings and granddaughter; Jennifer Elizabeth Rood.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Syracuse, burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Norwich. There will be no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to the Priests’ Retirement Fund (Diocese of Syracuse, Box 511, Syracuse, NY 13201) or the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (385 Watervliet-Shaker Rd, Latham, NY 12110).
