Lawrence E. Slater, 80 years old, of South Plymouth, NY, passed away on September 11, 2024 at his home.
Lawrence was born March 21, 1944 in Norwich, NY, the son of Clarence A. and Bernice M. (Angle) Slater.
Lawrence worked at The Norwich Shoe Factory for a short time, then began his career with the New York State DOT, retiring as Supervisor. After retiring he drove truck for Burrell’s Excavating. Then the most enjoyable time came when he and Linda loved and cared for their grandchildren.
Lawrence married Linda Lee Collins on March 18, 1967 in Plymouth, NY; she predeceased him on July 7, 2018. He is survived by a daughter, Christina (Floyd) Shepard and sons, Larry Slater and Kevin (Anna) Slater. He is survived by seven grandchildren: Cassandra Shepard (Brandon Winton), Robert Shepard (Hanna Hagerman), Kyle Shepard (Julia Hurlburt), Brennan (Amy) Slater, Brianna Slater, Brooke Slater and O’Rion Slater. Great-grandchildren are Liam Slater, Bailey Shepard and waiting the arrival of Paytin Slater.
Lawrence is survived by brothers and sisters, Josephine Slate, Mildred Manwarren, James Slater, Wilson (Christina) Franklin, Elaine (Joe) Manwarren, Marjorie (Jerry) Knapp, and Stephen Slater. Also sisters-in-law Laura Slater and Helen Franklin. Lawrence is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and dominoes, country music, dancing and spending time with his friends and family.
Lawrence is predeceased by three brothers Clarence (Sonny) Slater, Richard (Dick) Franklin and Robert (Bob) Franklin; brothers-in-law Edgar Slate and Elmer Manwarren; and close friends Norman Bush and Jay Brooker.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday September 17, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at RJ Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich NY. The Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. immediately following the calling hours with Pastor Nathaniel DeRochie officiating. The burial will take place after the funeral in Valley View Cemetery in South Otselic, NY.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life after the burial at the Plymouth Firehouse, 3461 State Hwy. 23.
