Francis P. “Frank” Maiurano, Jr., 69, a Norwich native, passed away on February 3, 2024, at Wilson Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born on March 7, 1954, in Norwich, Frank was the son of Francis P. “Bill” and Virginia “Honey” (Yacano) Maiurano, the former owners of Maiurano’s Flower Shop & Greenhouse. He graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1972 and then attended Broome Community College.
Frank worked for his parents at Maiurano’s Flower Shop & Greenhouse where he showed his true talents and creativity in floral design. He drove delivery for Pizza Hut and more recently, Frank worked as a cashier for Tops Friendly Markets. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Norwich. Frank worked “Gate 5” for many years at the annual Chenango County Fair and loved attending the New York State Fair yearly.
On August 10, 1974, Frank married Cynthia Richer, who predeceased him on October 23, 1978.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Palmer (Stephen Del Vecchio) of Cinncinati, OH; grandchildren, Katarina Palmer, Tristan Palmer, and Andrew Palmer; great-granddaughter, Raeleen Palmer; sisters, Catherine “Cathy” Warner and Virginia “Ginny” (Robert) Allen; brother, Joseph Maiurano; nieces and nephews, David Allen, Rebecca “Becky” (Abdullah) Alhumayni, Maria Maiurano, Concetta Maiurano, and Virginia Maiurano; great-niece, Naima Alhumayni; aunt Frances Armstrong; uncle, George Yacano; many cousins; special cousins from Oswego, and his adored cat, Smokey.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Frank will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Church of St. Bartholomew, where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, February 9, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Burial will occur at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the spring.
