William Brown Sr.


EARLVILLE – William G. Brown Sr., 70, of Abbott Avenue, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at the Bassett Healthcare Center, Cooperstown, following a courageous battle against cancer.
He was in Binghamton on Feb. 11, 1940, the son of the late Gordon and Mildred Hall Brown. Bill was a graduate of Vestal High School. He was a Navy veteran. Bill had spent his working career working for the State of New York. He had worked at various facilities across the state in the heating department. He retired from the New York State Veterans’ home located in Oxford with 41 years of service. On Sept. 4, 2004, at the Sherburne Park, Bill married his wife, Joan. Bill was a railroad buff, enjoying railroad history and collecting trains. He was an excellent handyman, and was always known to help a neighbor.
Bill is survived by his wife Joan; two sons, William G. Brown, Jr. and Patrick Brown, both of Norwich; his step children, Vaughn Furgison of Hubbardsville, John Furgison of West Edmeston, and Charles Furgison of Brookfield; his sister, Carol Dodd of Tucson, Ariz., 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and his former wife, Colleen Brown of Norwich.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Brookfield Baptist Church. There will be visitation at the church from Noon until the time of the service.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield.
