Ann A. Howard


Ann A. Howard, 86, of Sherburne, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
She was born on July 18, 1937 in Norwich, a daughter of the late Hugh and Ida (Harrington) McGowan. She was a graduate of the Oxford Academy in Oxford, NY. On February 2, 1957, she married John “Jack” Howard in Sherburne at the Christ Church, now the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
Ann worked briefly at NBT Bank before becoming the bookkeeper at the family farm, Westside Stock Farms in Sherburne. She was a faithful housewife and a wonderful mother. She was an avid golfer and was proud of her several holes-in-one. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and pitch. She was fond of bird watching and gardening. Ann was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; children, Patricia (John) Kowalski of Earlville, Rev. Donna (Kevin) Steckline of Lovingston, VA and David Howard (Denise Russell) of Sherburne; a sister, Alma June Smith of Oneonta; grandchildren, Mary Jo Lawson, John A. Kowalski, Scott Kowalski, Russell Howard, Kaitlin Howard, Richard Howard, Christopher Steckline, Emily Steckline, Lydia Howard and Hailey Howard; great-grandchildren, Troy Kowalski, Delilah Kowalski, James Kowalski, Cody Lawson, Abe Howard, Gunnarr Howard and Stryker Howard. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ann was predeceased by a son, Robert Howard (Roxanne; sisters, Inath Hubbard, Nora Craver, Sylvia Witchella, Reta Collier, Joyce Powers and a brother, Earl McGowan.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 5 Classic St., Sherburne, NY 13460. Interment in the West Hill Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
