Virginia Berg

NORWICH – Virginia .I. Berg, 80, of Norwich, passed away late Monday evening, May 10, 2010, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
A resident of Norwich since the late 1940s, Virginia was born in Downsville in September of 1929, the daughter of Leroy and Eunice Osterhout Spencer. While growing up in the Downsville and Delhi areas, she attended the local schools, moving to Norwich in the late 1940s following her marriage in Binghamton to Charles W. Berg on Sept. 21. 1947.
Virginia worked for many years for the Norwich Shoe Company, and later as a domestic for numerous local families. Her passion was garage saleing with her group of friends, and she enjoyed doing crossword and word search puzzles. She was a well-read lady, set in her ways to the point of being stubborn on some issues, and you always knew where she stood on things because she always spoke her mind. Virginia was an avid fan of both ‘Law and Order’ and ‘Cold Case Files.’
Virginia is survived by her children: Charles W. Berg Jr. of New Berlin, and companion Barbara Falin; William A. Berg of Nineveh and companion Sharon Northrop; and Steven M. Berg of Norwich and companion Lisa Warner; and by her grandchildren: Brian Berg, Tisha Leigh Lynch and husband Tim, and Jennifer Lynn Berg and companion Matt Ryder. Also surviving is Virginia’s great grandson, Noah James Ryder. She was predeceased by her husband Charles on May 7, 1997, and her brother, Glenn Spencer.
Memorial services for Virginia will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, pastor of the Earlville Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
