Gary N. Gray, Jr., 82, a longtime resident of Norwich, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Gary was born in Sidney, NY, on July 4, 1941, the son of Gary N. and Elizabeth (Richards) Gray, Sr. He was raised in the Sidney area where he attended the Sidney Central Schools. Following his graduation in 1959, he attended SUNY Delhi where he earned his Associates Degree with a major in accounting in 1961. Gary served in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. On May 7, 1966, he was united in marriage to Victoria Noel of Hamilton, NY, who survives.
Following college, Gary went to work at Bendix Corporation in Sidney in the accounting department. Gary then began a longtime employment with NBT Bank, beginning in the Bainbridge office as a teller and eventually moving to Norwich where he worked at the main branch. He retired in 2003 as Assistant Vice President in the Data Processing Department. He was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ First Congregational, a former member of the Norwich Jaycees, had bowled for the NBT Bank bowling team and was an active volunteer of the Northeast Classic Car Museum of Norwich.
Gary is survived by his wife Vicki; sons Jeffrey Gray of Holbrook, AZ, and Christopher (Karen) Gray of New Rochelle, NY; and his grandchildren Meredith Gray, Spencer Gray, Hagen Gray and Lyric Gray. Also surviving is his brother Richard (Stephanie) Gray of Apalachin, NY, along with nieces and nephews.
Gary was predeceased by his grandson David L.J. Gray and his brother Steven Gray.
A funeral service for Gary will be held on Monday, October 23, at 11:00 a.m. from the United Church of Christ First Congregational of Norwich. The Rev. Jason Boyd, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the United Church of Christ on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
