David Beltz

NORWICH – David J. “Dave” Beltz, 72, lifelong Norwich resident, passed away at his home late Sunday evening, May 9, 2010, with his family by his side, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
The son of John and Florence Litts Beltz, Dave was born in Norwich in February of 1938. He attended the Norwich schools, graduated with the class of 1957, and almost immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Dave served his country from August of 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1963 when he returned home to begin his working career. After a short time with the C&U Telephone Corp., he took employment with the National Bank & Trust Company in Norwich, where his career spanned over 27 years. He began in the data processing department and, upon his retirement in 2000, was working in customer service. Following his retirement, Dave was not idle. He continued to work, putting in time with the Family Court as a bailiff, as a real estate salesman with Peggy Parker Real Estate, and as part-time help with Hayes Office Products and the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. A quiet man whose eyes showed his sense of humor, Dave was an avid outdoorsman all his life, enjoying especially the hunting, fishing, and camping which he shared with his family, and taking walks around the city. He also excelled at trap shooting, having earned second place at the World Grand Trap Shoot Event in the Sr. Veterans Handicap Division. Aside from his outdoor activities, Dave was also handy in the kitchen where he found great enjoyment in making pies which he would distribute to his friends.
On Nov. 28, 1959, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Dave married Rosemary Frank. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Beltz of Norwich; and by his children and their spouses: John J. and Julee Beltz and Karen DelMonico, all of Norwich, and Michael and Laura Beltz of Greensboro, N.C. Also surviving are grandchildren: Alicia DelMonico of Rocky Mt., N.C., Michael DelMonico of Grand Rapids, Mich., Lance Corporal Kyle Beltz of Hawaii, Lindsay Beltz of Norwich, Jamie Evans of Hornell, and Jessie Teribury of Wilmington, N.C.; great grandchildren Ian, Eli, and Olivia Evans, and Lauren Teribury; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Ed Beltz.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dave will be held at noon on Friday, May 14, from St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment with full military rites will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5-7.
Please consider memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
