Arthur R. Bishop


Arthur R. Bishop, 66, of Plymouth NY, passed away unexpectedly on May 18th, 2023. He was born on August 24th, 1956, in Norwich, NY, son of Charles Bishop, Sr., and Janet Bishop.
Art is survived by his wife, Susan Bishop, and his two sons, Jason Bishop and Benjamin Bishop all of Plymouth, NY. He is survived by his siblings, Charles “Chuck” Bishop, Jr. (Gwen) of Smiths Creek MI, David Bishop (Dolores) of Sherburne, NY, Bob Bishop (Tammy) of Smyrna NY, Linda Fissel of Norwich NY and Bonnie Wilcox of Mt. Upton, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents, his brother Terry Bishop and his sister, Gloria Collar.
Art started his professional career at Plymouth Highway Department in his younger years. He eventually continued on to pursue his career with the Chenango County Highway Department as a road foreman. Art retired from the County on May 18th, 2013 before returning to work for the Resource Center for Independent Living and the Town of Plymouth up until the day he passed. Art was also a caretaker for developmentally disabled individuals with his wife in their home for many years.
He had many passions as a young man that he carried into his adulthood. Some of which were maintaining and expanding his own beef farm. Art was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time in the woods hunting, trapping, and cutting firewood. Some of his happiest moments came while riding his Fatboy Harley Davidson and spending time with his family. Art could often be found at his nephew’s house up the road, where they would spend countless hours together chatting about life or working on all types of projects. Art was a generous soul with a big heart, willing to help anyone needing a hand.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich. Funeral and burial will be held privately for the family.
