Constance Winter


NORWICH – Constance Cannova Winter, 85 of Preston Manor and formerly of King Settlement Road passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin.
She was born in 1924 in Bergenfield, N.J. the daughter of Salvatore C. Cannova and Benedetta (Gambino) Cannova. At one time she was married to Donald S. Winter Jr. and they were married in Bergenfield, N.J. on June 29, 1952. She was a graduate of Bergenfield High School, class of 1942. She was a homemaker and also had worked as a librarian’s assistant in Norwich for several years. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s R.C.Church of Norwich and its Ava Maria Guild. In her younger years she was an active member of the Democratic Party and very involved in Chenango County politics. She was an avid supporter of the public schools.
She is survived by her children, Nanette (Winter) Johnston and husband William (Ted) of Morris, Valerie Winter of Alexandria, Va., Renee Winter-Bertsch and husband James of Dallas, Pa., and Donald S. Winter III and Margaret Rumph of Sausalito, Calif.,  five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Friday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew”s R.C. Church in Norwich with the Rev. Ralph Bove officiating. Committal services and burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, in Tenafly, N.J.
