Flossie Hinman


NORWICH – Flossie L. Hinman, 93, a life long resident of Grotsinger Road of Norwich, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 21, 2006 in the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford, where she had made her home for the past seven years.
The daughter of Ora V. and Harriet (Figary) Law, Flossie was born in Pharsalia on June 8, 1913. She grew up in the Norwich area where she attended the local schools and at the age of 9 moved to Grotsinger Road. On June 8, 1933 in Norwich she married Fred E. Hinman, who passed away Nov. 23, 1984. They built their home on her family farm where she would live for the rest of her life.
Flossie was a charter member of the Temple Baptist Church of Norwich which began in 1972 where she taught Sunday school for many years. A very gentle, fun loving and forgiving woman, she was loved by all who knew her. Her family, church and farm, at which she worked to the age of 76, were her life. Musically inclined, she enjoyed playing the piano both at church and at home and would always sing along. She also played the violin, crocheted, loved to read and take care of the sick.
Flossie is survived by her children; Janet Law of South Colton, Mildred (Millie) Smith of Norwich, Rev. Ralph Hinman and wife Pat of Norwich, Fred E. Hinman Jr. and wife Thelma of Oxford, Norma Matthews of Georgia and Melody Langille and husband Bernard of Norwich. Also surviving are 36 grandchildren, many, many (160+) great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides her husband Fred, Flossie was predeceased by her sister Mildred Law, a brother Edward Law and several grandchildren.
Funeral services for Flossie will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Temple Baptist Church of Norwich. The Rev. Richard Gould, pastor, and The Rev. Ralph Hinman will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
