William Fred “BILL” Millard
William Fred “Bill” Millard, 81, of North Norwich, passed away on January 4, 2023 at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.
He was born on December 3, 1941, in Claremore, OK., a son of the late Mack and Louise (Draper) Millard. He graduated high school in Borger, TX., and attended college there for one year. In 1975 he graduated from SUNY Agricultural and Technical College of Morrisville, with a AAS degree in electrical technology. He served in the US Navy from 1964-1967 during Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Alice K. Hendricks on January 28, 1983, in Smyrna.
Fred started his career at Great American and later worked for Big M in Sherburne until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne, the North Norwich Volunteer Fire Department and Fire Police. He was a leather craftsman, he enjoyed jigsaws and word puzzles, reading, camping, fishing and was an antique car enthusiast.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; his step-children: Marc (Dawn) Baker, of Sherburne, Gene (Denise) Baker, Jr., of VA, Theresa Hamilton, of Herkimer, Douglas Baker of Sherburne, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother Mitchel (Kathleen) Millard of NC, Anthony “Thumper” (Carol) Millard, Andrew (Tanya) Millard, Timothy (Pam) Millard, all of TX; a brother-in-law Jerry Bishop of TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Bishop.
A celebration honoring Fred’s life will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the American Post #876, 15 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY 13460, from 2-4 PM. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the North Norwich Fire Department, PO Box 99, North Norwich, NY 13814 and the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 E Main St. #1, Norwich NY 13815.
