Marie Suydan


SHERBURNE – Marie A.  (Tibbens) Suydan, 81, of East State Street, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at her home with her daughters at her bedside. She had fought a three-year battle against cancer.
She was born Dec. 19, 1928 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Melvin and Elizabeth (Meyers) Tibbens. She graduated from South Otselic High School. Marie worked in various capacities at TACO, Grand Union Markets, the Pratt-Newton Home, and Sherwood Medical Company in Sherburne. She was proud of her strong work ethic. Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, country music, dancing, jewelry, reading biographies and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Colleen A. Bennett of Earlville and Diane (Dan) Carpenter of Cazenovia; her long-time companion and loving caregiver, Willis Rose; her sister, Kathryn (Earl) Kurtz of Marathon; grandchildren, Josh Lawrence, Danielle James and Elizabeth Bennett; brother-in-law, John McDaniel; three great-grandchildren; and many McDaniel, O’Neil and Tibbens nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert L. Suydan; her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) McDaniel; and three brothers, James, Frank and John Tibbens.
In keeping with Marie’s wishes, there are no calling hours and services are private.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
