Steven Mark Shonosky

Steven Mark “Steve” Shonosky, 62, a lifelong resident of Norwich, and well-known pizza maker at Nina’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, died at his residence on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
Born on December 2, 1959, Steve was the son of Walter and Jeanne (Hutchinson) Shonosky. He was a graduate of the Norwich High School and completed some college coursework at SUNY Morrisville Extension, in Norwich. Prior to graduating high school, at the age of 14, Steve began work at Nina’s as a pizza maker, where he continued that work until his death. He was well known around Norwich as the “pizza man” where he could always be found at the Nina’s storefront window tossing pizza dough in the air and saying “Hi” to generations of patrons. Considering the number of years Steve worked at Nina’s and how many pizzas he made each day, Steve easily prepared over a million pizzas during his time there.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his mother, whose husband died when Steve was just 13 years old. He also enjoyed music and attending concerts, deer hunting, skiing in Vermont, swimming at Chenango Lake with his dogs, traveling on his motorcycle, and trips to the Jersey Shore with his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his sister, Terry Ann Echentile, of Winsted, CT; brother, Roger Shonosky, of Oxford; and sister Barbara Barber and her husband, Steven, of Enola, PA. Known within his family as the “fun uncle,” Steve is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Kalynn and Tyson (Katie) Echentile, Tom (Megan) Shonosky, Holly (J.D.) Davis, and Kevin (Adria) and Christopher Barber; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Many, many friends, and his two dogs and two cats also survive. In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Martin Echentile.
Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. There will be no funeral service and burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Steve’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692, or the Chenango SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
