Joan E. Rose


NORWICH – Joan E. Rose, 69, of Cortland St., passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
She was born June 19, 1940 in Earlville, a daughter of Charles H. and Ida Braun Wilcox. She was a graduate of Sherburne High School and the Utica School of Commerce. On June 13, 1964, Joan married Wendell Rose in Sherburne. Mrs. Rose had been a secretary for Cooley’s Real Estate in Norwich, had worked for C&U Telephone, and then was an accounts payable clerk at BOCES until her retirement.
Joan was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church and its various ministries, and was also the church organist. For many years, she was the pianist and organist at the Faith Baptist Tabernacle in Sherburne. She enjoyed bowling in both singles and couples leagues with her husband.
Surviving are her husband, Wendell; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Rose of Norwich; three brothers and a sister-in-law, David and Marge Wilcox of Sherburne; Charles Wilcox of West Winfield; Robert Wilcox of Sidney; her grandchildren, Roger Rose and his fiancée, Bethany Brown, Ryan and Reid Rose; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Calvary Dr., Norwich. The service can be heard online by clicking on the sermons plus link at cbcnorwich.org.
Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Valley Heights Christian Academy Scholarship Fund, 75 Calvary Dr., Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
