Gary Eddy

NORWICH – Gary R. Eddy, 70, long-time Norwich resident, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his home.
Born in South New Berlin in October of 1939, Gary grew up in numerous places across the country while his dad was in the military. When Gary was in his teens, he returned to the Norwich area and attended the Norwich schools. Gary was a hard worker right out of high school, beginning with employment by Craine Silo as a silo builder. He then worked concurrently for GLA during the day, Victory Markets at night, and, in his spare time, did painting before eventually becoming employed by Lewis Engineering. In 1981, he became an inspector of aeronautical parts for the U.S. government, retiring from that job in March of 2005 as a GS 11. Away from the job, Gary was a man who loved anything to do with the outdoors, including traveling. He was a Civil War buff who was set in his ways, very analytical, and enjoyed socializing after loosening up his own way. His barbecued chicken was “the best,” and you didn’t touch his grill. Gary was an associate member of Christy Rock Post 2782 of Norwich.
Gary is survived by his parents, William and Virginia Preston Eddy of Palmyra; his long-time companion, Donna Livingston; his children and their spouses: Lisa and Greg Pinney of Oneonta, Carrie O’Donnell of St. Charles, Mo., Gary Eddy of Sherburne, Scott and Karen Eddy of Norwich, and Eric and Jill Eddy of Norwich. Also surviving are his step-children and their spouses: Kelly and Bob Revette of Smyrna, Kim and Jeremy Vandebogart of Lynchburg, Va., Kory and Lisa Livingston, also of Lynchburg, and Kandi and Brooks Monroe of Otselic; his sisters, Bonnie Bergeron and husband Bob of Connecticut, and Vicki Partridge of Palmyra; 22 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his wife, Rosalyn Eddy, on May 10, 1987, his grandson, Tyler Eddy, and step-son, Kevin Livingston.
Funeral services for Gary will be held at noon on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor of St. Paul’s Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery of Sidney Center. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon.
Please consider memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
