Ruth Green

NORWICH – Ruth Green, 92, life-long Norwich resident, passed away late Thursday afternoon, April 1, 2010, in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home.
Born in Norwich in June of 1917, Ruth was the daughter of Thomas and Mary McGowan Stackhouse, Jr. She received her education in the Norwich school system, then worked for Scintilla during World War II. On Nov. 15, 1942, in St. Paul’s Church, Ruth married Everett L. Green. Ruth later worked as a waitress at Sisson’s Dairy Bar, the snack bar at the Norwich airport, and Griff’s Diner. She last worked for Gibson School, first as a cook in the cafeteria and then as a monitor for the school, from which she retired. Ruth just loved children and enjoyed any activity which involved them. A generous lady and an accomplished seamstress and quilter, she had made many quilts and blankets for newborns and little children. It went without saying that she doted on her own grandchildren, who were the loves of her life.
Ruth is survived by her son, David Green and wife Dale of Norwich; her grandchildren, David Green and wife Sarah of Mt. Upton and Jennifer O’Bryan and husband Sean of Sherburne; her great grandchildren, Abigail and Brianna; and her sister, Marie Bellinger and husband Harold of Philadelphia. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Everett, on Aug. 17, 1995; and by her sister, Dorothy Henry and brother, Harry Stackhouse.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor of St. Paul’s Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the North Norwich Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service at 10.
