Richard Gordon Cummings Jr.


Richard Gordon “Richie” Cummings, Jr., age 52, of Norwich, died Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown after a long illness.
Richie was born March 6, 1970 in Norwich, the son of Richard G. Cummings Sr. and Susan Leo. He grew up in the Norwich-Sherburne area, moving to Marion, Arkansas in 1987, and graduating from West Memphis HS in 1989.
After living and working for a period of time in Arkansas, Richie returned to the Norwich area. He worked at Charlie’s Diner in Norwich for many years, busing tables and providing assistance in the kitchen. Richie loved his job and co-workers as if they were family.
Richie was a quiet, simple man who preferred the company of his close friends and relatives. He held a deep fondness for animals and wildlife, especially the wolf. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and attending derbies with his brother’s family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Sue (Bobby) Deese, his sister Tammy Rose Cummings as well as his grandparents. He is survived by his father Richard Sr. (Joanne) Cummings; brother Shawn (Yvonne) Cummings; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, March 15, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St, Norwich.
Richie will be laid to rest in the spring with his grandparents and sister at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich.
