Jeanne Matteson


NORWICH – Jeanne D. Matteson, 80, of Campbell Road, Norwich, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The daughter of Raymond and Clella (Dixson) Dexter, Jeanne was born in Norwich on Aug. 16, 1926. She grew up in South New Berlin, where she attended school and graduated in 1945, and then earned her associates degree at CCBI in Syracuse. Following her graduation, Jeanne worked for two years for Norwich Baton Laboratories. On April 16, 1950, in South New Berlin, Jeanne married Donald Matteson and devoted herself from that time forward to being a good wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norwich, the American Baptist Women Association, and the Rebecca Lodge in South New Berlin, and had served for 12 years as secretary to the Ilion Baptist Church.
Jeanne is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Matteson of Norwich; by her children: Debra Silverman and husband Neil of Albany, and Cynthia Matteson of Westtown; by her grandchildren: Heather Berthel and husband Bill of South New Berlin, Lisa Wetterhahn and husband Chad of South Plymouth, Nathan Barber and wife Bethany of Rome, Marissa Silverman, and Travis Silverman, both of Sherburne; and by her great grandchildren, Joshua Wetterhahn and Lauryn Barber.
Funeral services for Jeanne will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Susan Polizzi, Ppastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery of New Berlin.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
