Cynthia Hughes


NORWICH – Cynthia Ann Hughes, 45, of Miller Street, Norwich, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2010, at her home with her family by her side after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born June 30, 1964 in Sidney, Cindy was the daughter of Harry and Roberta (Riley) Fletcher. She graduated from Sidney High School and received her Associates Degree from Mohawk Valley Community College. Cindy was a “Senior Litigation Specialist” for New York Central Mutual Insurance Company in Sherburne, and had previously worked for Preferred Mutual Insurance Company.
Known for her adventurous spirit, Cindy enjoyed playing racquetball, four-wheeling, and kayaking.  She volunteered every year to help with the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament, and was an avid New York Mets fan.
Cindy is survived by her loving children, Derek and Kayla Hughes, of Norwich; their father, Stuart Hughes, of Norwich; her parents, Harry Fletcher, of Lillian, Alabama and Roberta Snow and her husband, Richard, of Lake Placid, Florida; her sisters and their husbands, Joanne and Randy Fritz, of Oneonta, Kathy and John Miller of Guilford, and Teresa and Grant Whaley of Norwich; a niece, Jessica and her husband Tom Becker and their children, Kathleen and Hunter, of Greene; and six nephews, Jason Manderville and Bambi and their children, Desirae, Ondrea and Jairus, of Lisle, Joseph Dascano of Virginia, Joshua Miller of Denver, Colorado, Justin Miller, serving with the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas, and Tyler and Ryan Marszal, of Unadilla.  Cindy is also survived by many, many friends.
Memorial services for Cindy will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Friends are invited to call at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Friends will also gather following the service at Taylor’s Country House, Co. Rt. 320, at 2 p.m. New York Mets attire is strongly encouraged.
Cindy’s family will provide flowers.  Please make contributions in Cindy’s memory to the American Cancer Society, or Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County.
