Elsie J. Johnson, 93, of Guilford, passed away at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on January 27, 2022.
Born on October 17, 1928, in Mineola, NY, Elsie was the daughter of Joseph and Ragna (Odegard) Iverson. She grew up on Long Island and graduated in 1946 from Hempstead High School. Elsie then attended nursing school in Norwegian Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, where she earned a Registered Nursing degree in 1950. After relocating to the Guilford area, Elsie became a nurse for the Guilford Elementary School, a nurse for home care, and a nurse at Chenango Memorial Hospital. She was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed her trips to Norway to visit her sisters, Nancy and Janet.
On November 24, 1951, in the Mt. Upton Methodist Church, Elsie married Carl R. Johnson, who survives. She is also survived by her children, Eric Johnson of Castle Creek, NY, and Christine Johnson of Albany, NY; her grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Kedryn Govan, and Darian Govan; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Senti, Nancy Iverson, Janet Grindheim, and Iver Iverson.
A memorial service and calling hours for Elsie will be held in the spring of 2022. Burial will immediately follow in Sunset Cemetery, Guilford, NY.
