Laura C. Alger


Laura C. Alger, 93, formerly of Norwich and more recently of Sarasota, FL, passed away at her Florida residence on January 24, 2022.
Born on October 27, 1928, in Masonville, NY, Laura was the daughter of William and Bernice (McDonald) Cuyle, and was one of their three children. While living in Masonville during her early years, Laura attended the Sidney Schools, and graduated from Sidney High School. After high school, she worked for a brief time with Norwich Mills and then with the James Santolucito Restaurant on South Broad Street. On October 13, 1947, Laura joined Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals in their packaging department. She was promoted throughout her years up through and to her last position as a planner/expediter in the materials management department. She retired from the pharmaceutical company in 1987. In her spare time, Laura enjoyed her membership at the Canasawacta Country Club (accomplishing a hole-in-one), and loved to golf.
On January 10, 1948, in Pennsylvania, Laura married Marshall M. Alger. Marshall died on December 15, 1987. Laura was also predeceased by her siblings, Howard Cuyle and Dorothy Ward. She was also predeceased in 2007 by her loving companion, John Ebovicz, and is survived by John’s nephew, Patrick (Pamela) Laughlin, of Sarasota, FL, and their son, Blaine (Amelia) Laughlin, of Charleston, SC, and good friends, Pat and John Prill, of Sarasota, FL.
A graveside service for Laura will be held in the spring 2022 at Maplewood Cemetery, in Mount Upton, NY. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in Laura’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilson Funeral Home, Norwich, NY.
