Karen Lynn Murphy, 63, of Norwich, NY, passed away on January 10, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Karen was born in February of 1958 in Norwich, NY, daughter of the late Dewitt Cornelius “Peck” Murphy and Phyllis Estellow Taylor who predecease her.
Karen is survived by her loving wife Shona Nicholson, and children, Jeremy Zornow, and his children Layla Burton, Kelsey Zornow, Landen Zornow, Shealynn Zornow; Jennifer and husband Fred Thomas, and their children, Cheyann Thomas, and Zaylee Thomas; Jeffrey and wife Adrienne Zornow and their children Jayden Zornow, Emmaleigh Zornow, and Zachery Zornow.
Karen is also survived by her siblings Tim and wife Debbie Murphy, Kevin Murphy, John and wife Kathy Murphy, Jared and wife Teresa Murphy, and Frank Taylor. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her.
Karen was a bakery and deli manager for many years, working for numerous grocery chains throughout the years, until she retired in 2006 to take care of her grandchildren and to watch them grow. She met her wife Shona in January in 2004. Karen and Shona were married on Friday, June 13, 2014, on a day Karen considered her “lucky day”. Karen always enjoyed watching the many birds outside of her forever home. She also loved baking, and mostly enjoyed making the most wonderful birthday cakes for all her grandchildren and tried to out do the cakes of previous years every time.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Karen’s memory can be made to any of the following organizations: St. Jude’s Hospital, East Coast Animal Adoption, The Norwich Chenango County SPCA, or to The Chenango County Hospice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc. 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY 13830. A Celebration of Life and Internment will be private. Friends and family may share memories and condolences by visiting www.behefuneralhome.com.
