Frederick A. DeCarr


Frederick A. DeCarr, 93, of Sherburne, NY passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 7, 1928 in Sauquoit, NY, a son of the late Chester and Florence Shaw DeCarr and received his education in Sauquoit schools. On March 14, 1964, Frederick married Irene S. Clark in Great Bend, PA, a loving union of over 57 years. Fred had worked for McCredy Motors in Sherburne for over 40 years. After that, he opened his own mechanic shop at his home. He was a member of the NYS Stock Car Association and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Well known as an engine builder on the East Coast, Fred built stock car #33 from the frame up and it finished 10th without sponsorship at the Daytona Speedway, driven by Bill Wimble. Fred was the Crew Chief for #33 winning championships throughout the 1960’s including the NASCAR National Sportsman Division, NASCAR New York State, NASCAR Connecticut, Fonda Speedway, Monroe County Fairgrounds, Victoria Speedway, Stafford Springs Speedway, Utica-Rome Speedway, Albany-Saratoga Speedway and the Lebanon Valley Speedway. He was an honorary member of the Mid State Speedway Club, and a NYS Boomers Performance top mechanic.
Surviving are his wife, Irene; his children, Debbie and Robert “Bob” Brunschmid of Sherburne; Danette and Greg Wengert of Burlington Flats; Darcie Pike and Joseph Stark, Jr. of Castle Creek; grandchildren, Sean and Melissa Brigham of Sidney; Cory Pike of Sherburne; Kendell and Gary DuVall of New Berlin; Ashley Wengert of Burlington Flats; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Colin Brigham; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Dan; sisters, Velma DeCarr and Lorraine Gallup; and a brother, Donald DeCarr.
Graveside services will be held in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne, at the convenience of the family in the spring.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
