Richard F. Guiles Jr.

Richard F. Guiles Jr. (Tiger, Big Daddy), 49, of Smyrna passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2021.
Rich was born in Norwich, NY to Richard Guiles Sr. and Gloria Jean (Mowers) Guiles on February 8, 1972. He graduated from Sherburne Earlville High School in 1990. Rich enjoyed his early days growing up in Smyrna and those memories were always a topic of discussion that he never got tired of laughing about with friends. As Rich entered his teenage years, wrestling and then weight lifting were huge parts of his life. At 16, Rich won several Powerlifting Championships. All through his life, Rich was an extremely hard worker and held numerous jobs but it wasn’t until these recent years that all that hard work finally paid off when he started his own business, Guiles Barn and Silo. He was very proud of this accomplishment and loved helping people revitalize old barns and talking about the history of these places. Rich was also a very proud father and loved all his children dearly.
Rich is preceded in death by his sister, Sue Ann Guiles; uncle and closest friend, Robert A. (Bob) Mowers; mother, Gloria Jean (Mowers) Guiles; and beloved son, Harper Allen Guiles.
Rich is survived by his long time partner, Shannon Kennedy, of Smyrna; daughter, Kailyn Guiles, of Sherburne; son, Hayden Guiles, of Smyrna; his father, Richard F. Guiles Sr., of Sherburne; sister, Melissa Casler, and husband, Ivan, of Cuyler; sister, Brenda Guiles, and companion, Mark Labonoski, of Syracuse; sister, Betsy Duerheimer, and husband, Todd, of Sherburne; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rich’s motto was “Go Big or Go Home” and he always put 100% into everything he did.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2021 at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich, with Pastor Jeremy Stopford officiating. Rich’s family will host a reception at the Sherburne American Legion starting at 5pm.
