Todd Harvey

OXFORD – Todd A. Harvey, of Triangle and Oxford, passed away with his loving family at his side on March 20, 2010 after a heroic two-year fight with cancer.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1985 in Norwich. He was the son of William R. and Melissa R. Harvey. Todd possessed an exuberance for life that was infectious and second to none, living his short life to the fullest. He loved and was loved by the countless number of people who crossed the path he was forging through life. Todd was a young man who always knew what he wanted and persevered until he reached his goal.
He is survived and so, so loved by his father and stepmother William R. Harvey and Maureen Hoke of Oxford; his mother and stepfather Melissa and Charles Bush of Triangle; his brothers, Scott Harvey of Triangle, and Ryan and Erika Harvey and his nephews, Parker and Ryder of Buzzards Bay, MA; his special love and friend, Sheena Hatton; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Vaughn of Fulton; his paternal grandparents, William T. and Mabel Harvey of Oxford; his aunts and uncles, Thomas and Kimberly Harvey of Norwich, Lawrence Vaughn and Connie Parrow of Watertown, Gregory and Teri Vaughn of Vancouver, WA, Jan and Norm Hagen of Amsterdam, NY; his aunt and Godmother Tracy Doherty of Fulton; and his Godfather Robert Eldred. Throughout life he was surrounded by a houseful of cousins, extended family, and some of the best friends he could have ever asked for, who also survive.
Todd graduated from Greene Central School in 2004 where he loved playing baseball and football. He attended Paul Smith’s College. He was employed by O’Brien & Gere in Raleigh, NC. He loved all kinds of fishing and operating The Reel Time charter fishing boat with his father on Lake Ontario. He was also an avid bow and gun hunter; hunting deer, geese and small game. He loved spending time at the camp at Sandy Pond with his many long-time summer friends, the Crockers, Hriczaks, Pokons, Thorns, and the rest of the Brennan’s Bay community. He enjoyed and was the life of the many family gatherings in Oxford and at camp with the Harveys, Hokes and Marrones. He liked working on the farm with his great friend TJ, fishing with his buddy Dave Crocker, and also loved his current job with O’Brien & Gere, where he forged a strong friendship with his wonderful friends and family away from home, Sandy, Jerry and their family. He loved to go 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, and jetskiing; anything that was red and black, fast and loud. He really enjoyed the new camp on the Salmon River in Mexico, NY, where he would sit by the hour and watch the river. One of his fondest memories was the fishing trip he took with his friends at O’Brien & Gere to Canada. He enjoyed a very special bond with his grandfather and best buddy, Bill.
The family would like to express their fondest appreciation to Todd’s second family for the last year and a half, Dr. Harris and the Broome Oncology staff. The care, support, and love they provided to Todd and the family made his many hours of treatment “as good as it gets.” A special thanks also to the Oxford Fire Department & auxiliary, the Red Knights Motorcycle Club, and the entire community for their generous support at Todd’s fund raiser weekend back in October. Their continued willingness to help in any way possible throughout these tough times has been a blessing. The words “thank you” seem so trivial in expressing our deep gratitude for the hundreds of expressions of care, love, and kindness we have received through emails, cards, phone calls, and prayers over the last months. The e-mail contact list for “Todd updates” just grew and grew. Thank you to Dave Barnes who forwarded these updates to the church family at the United Methodist Church of Greene and to the ladies of Chenango County Hospice and Tara Crocker who stepped in at the end, helping us to make the last couple of days easier to handle. Thank you to the teachers and staff at Greene Central Schools for their heartfelt support. Thank you to the staff of Preferred Mutual for their ongoing support and friendship.
Todd’s family invites you to join us in a celebration of his life on Wednesday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford, with the Rev. Charles Taylor and Rev. Amy Gregory officiating. We would like to encourage those who have special memories of their times with Todd to share them with us during the service. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in Todd’s name to the Oxford Fire Department, American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Chenango County.
