OXFORD – Herbert “Charlie” Suloff, passed away on March 9, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Feb. 6, 1946 in West Chester, Pa., a son of the late Edward and Bessie (Carnathan) Suloff. On June 30, 1977 he married Catherine Baugher, who survives.
Besides his wife of 32 years, Catherine, he is survived by his children, Stephen Suloff and fiancé Sandy Conant of Oxford, Jason Suloff of McDonough, and Thomas Suloff and companion, Amy McLaury of McDonough and his special daughter Catherine Suloff of McDonough; his brothers, Edward (Buzzy) Suloff of Lewes, Del., Stuart and Gail Suloff of Afton, Wyo., his sister, Carol and Richard Keers of Downingtown, Pa., and his sister in law, Betty Suloff of Marcus Hook, Pa. and brother in law, Joe Levering of Peach Bottom, Pa. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Suloff and his sister, Jean Levering and sister in law, Joan Suloff. He had many nieces and nephews who survive him.
He was very family oriented and had a heart of gold. He was always there for you, when needed and would do anything for anyone. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing. He also had a passion for scratch off tickets. He will be greatly missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
He proudly served his country for many years in the U.S. Army, retiring from the military and spending quality time with his family. He was a small arms and machine gun instructor in the weapons branch. He always took part in course offerings and trainings, having completed hundreds of hours. He received many awards as a result of this training. He was known for going above and beyond his call of duty. He was awarded throughout his military career for exceeding 100 percent of his unit’s assigned objectives. He received a Purple Heart with four clusters, the Bronze Star for his act of bravery, the Distinguished Service Cross and many others medals. He was proud to have served his country and proud to be Vietnam veteran. He was a proud member of the American Legion as well as a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Private graveside services with full military honors will be in the spring in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Oxford.
