Dorothy Follett

NORWICH – Dorothy A. Follett, 88, formerly of Gold Street and most recently of Preston Manor, passed away late Tuesday night, March 9, 2010, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Bakersville, North Carolina, in September of 1921, Dorothy was the daughter of Carol and Fannie Buchanan Huskins. She attended and graduated from Bakersville High School and, in the mid-1940s, moved to the Norwich area. She and her husband of 29 years, Roy L. Follett, were married in Norwich on June 29, 1946. During World War II, Dorothy worked for Scintilla in Sidney and later did babysitting for the Boname family in Oxford. She was a finisher for the Arrow Laundry on Park Street for a time, working on the fancier dresses, then spent 10 years with CWS in Norwich, where she worked as a supervisor. Though she worked out of the home from time to time, Dorothy liked being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She enjoyed knitting and flower gardening, and took great pride in keeping her home spotless and comfortable for her family.
Dorothy is survived by her sons and their wives: Gary A. and Sandra D. Follett of Norwich, and Craig L. and Sharon L. Follett of Binghamton; by her sisters: Margaret Church of Norwich, Mary Harrison of Marshall, N.C., Charlotte Jane Troutman, also of Marshall, Joanne Weiner of Essex, Md., and Bett Davis and husband Wade of Charlottesville, Va.; and by her brother, Walter Huskins of North Norwich. Several grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Roy, in May of 1975; by her sisters, Thelma Buchanan and Arlie Wolfe, and her brother, Jack Huskins.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Spring committal will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m.
