John Aldridge


John Aldridge, who passed away in February, was laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich by members of his immediate family and a few close friends on May 10, 2021. He was 94 years old at the time of his death.
John was born at home on a Smyrna dairy farm in 1926, the son of Harrison Aldridge and Mattie Thompson Aldridge.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.
John lived and worked in the Norwich area most of his adult life. Some will remember him from the former Norwich Shoe Company, where he was President of Manufacturing. He retired in 1989.
John was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Connie Crandall Aldridge, along with all of his siblings. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Suzanne Aldridge of South Plymouth; granddaughter, Cassie Aldridge of Norwich; granddaughter, Jenna Critton and her husband, David Critton of New Jersey; great-grandson, Nathaniel Critton of New Jersey; three nieces and one nephew.
John was beyond generous to his family and friends. He was very accomplished, owing to his many practical skills. He was a “man’s man,” who lived his way.
John belongs to eternity now.
